EQUINE OBSTACLES
WHERE GOOD HORSES GET CURIOUS & RIDERS DO TOO.
There’s something satisfying about working through a challenge with a horse.
A gate that needs opening. A bridge that asks for trust. Poles that make you slow down, think and ride with a little more feel.
Welcome to Rein & River Equine Obstacles - a country-style riding experience designed for riders who want a little more than just going from A to B.
Some come to build confidence. Some come to sharpen up their riding. Some come because problem-solving with a horse is simply good fun.
No pressure. No ego. No need to have it all figured out.
Just good horses, thoughtful challenges and the kind of riding that keeps you present.
It's less about perfect. More about partnership.

LIL' OBSTACLE NOTES
Small challenges. Big personalities. Every horse has an opinion.

OBSTACLE #1
THE BRIDGE
Looks simple.
Until your horse decides it deserves a full investigation.
A great confidence-builder for both horse and rider, and a nice reminder that steady usually beats rushed.
One hoof at a time.

OBSTACLE #2
THE GATE
A little coordination. A little patience.
A surprising amount of satisfaction when it all comes together.
It’s not just about getting through - it’s about timing, feel and staying connected to your horse.
One step at a time. Open. Close.

OBSTACLE #3
POLES & LOGS
Step over.
Back through.
Side-pass.
Find the line.
Simple obstacles that ask for more awareness than you’d think - from both horse and rider.
Four feet. One rider. Ride the line.

OBSTACLE #4
TARPCAPADES
Ah yes.
A perfectly harmless piece of material.
Unless, according to your horse, it is a portal to another dimension.
We introduce unusual surfaces calmly and give horses time to investigate, think and work things out.
Bravery is allowed to happen one hoof at a time.

OBSTACLE #5
RESERVING UP
Forward is easy.
Backward requires a conversation.
Backing between poles or through a simple obstacle helps develop body control, responsiveness and rider awareness.
And occasionally reveals that left and right become surprisingly complicated when you’re looking backwards.

OBSTACLE #6
BENDY BITS
Cones, poles, barrels or whatever else we’ve dragged into position.
These obstacles are about steering, rhythm and finding a line without turning the whole exercise into interpretive dance.
Look where you’re going. Your horse probably is.
We might be biased, but the best view is between two ears.

COUNTRY OBSTACLES
LOOKS PRETTY EASY FROM OVER THERE.
A bit less autopilot. A little more feel. Bridges, gates, poles, logs, tarp, tight turns, backing up — and the odd thing your horse may need a proper look at.
Some are simple. Some make you think. Some make your horse think even harder. The point isn’t to blast through them. It’s to slow down, ride with intention and work things out together.
We’re not chasing perfection. We’re chasing a better conversation.
One obstacle. Several opinions.

OUR PLAYGROUND
WHERE YOU & HORSES GET TO THINK.
Bridges. Gates. Poles. Country challenges. Plenty of room to play.
Obstacle work has a way of building confidence without making a song and dance about it.

Confidence, communication and
problem-solving - all in one ride.
Obstacle work gives horses and riders something to figure out
together. It encourages softness, patience, timing and trust - and
sometimes a good laugh when things don’t go well first go.
WHAT IT BUILDS.
Confidence. Timing. Patience. Feel.
Obstacle work gives horse and rider something to figure out together. It asks you to slow down, pay attention and ride what’s actually happening underneath you.
Sometimes the smallest obstacle teaches the biggest lesson.
WHY WE LOVE IT.
Obstacles aren’t just about getting through the course. They’re about what happens while you do. You learn to slow down. To ride with more intention.
To notice where your horse feels confident, where they hesitate, and how you work through it together. That’s where the good stuff lives.
YOUR HORSE. YOUR PACE.
Some horses walk straight up to something new and ask what all the fuss is about.
Others need a minute. Or five. Or a detailed inspection from seventeen different angles. That’s okay.
Obstacle work isn’t about forcing a horse through something. It’s about helping them understand the question and giving them the confidence to answer it.
We'd rather build confidence than win an argument.
More than a Ride...
